Naturally-aspirated petrol power units equipped with the VTEC electronic valve timing system received the recognition of car enthusiasts. These engines, with their 1.6 — 2.0 litres displacement, were characterized by 150–200 hp output. The maximum torque was reached at 8,000 – 9,000 rpm. At the same time, the engines were characterized by high fuel efficiency: fuel consumption in extra-urban cycle didn’t exceed 7 litres per 100 km. These engines were installed, for instance, on the Honda Civic saloons and hatchbacks (1996–2000) and the Integra coupes (1998–2001).
At once several cars of 2018–2019 production years got the highest ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Among them are the Passport crossover and Insight hybrid saloon. These cars have the ACE body-on-frame structure which uniformly absorbs impact energy, minimizing the risk of damage in case of a road accident. Also available is the Sensing technology. It includes the Collision Mitigation Brake System (CMBS), the Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM), the Lane Departure Warning (LDW), the Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), and the adaptive cruise control. The modern Accord and Clarity saloons, the Civic hatchbacks, the CR-V and Pilot crossovers are also equipped with Sensing.
A wide-format digital dashboard installed on the Honda e hatchback launched in 2019 is an interesting engineering and design solution. It consists of 5 screens displaying surroundings of the car and information about operation of its main systems. Apart from this, there is brand’s AI-based Personal Assistant. It provides access to various online services, allows for the synchronisation of the vehicle with a smartphone.
