Information
AC sports cars are produced by the British company AC Cars Ltd from 1901 till present. The firm changed owners on numerous occasions: it belonged to the Ford Motor Company in 1987–1992, to the Pride Automotive Group Inc – since 1996. In the 2000s the company cooperated with the British enterprise Brooklands Motors and the American company Iconic. Through participation in many races, the cars of this make became legends.
Technical specifications of AC cars
The vehicles are equipped with high-performance engines. For example, the modern Cobra 378 roadster has a 6.2-litre 550 hp V8 petrol engine. It allows the sports car to accelerate to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and reach the top speed of 290 km/h. While the MK VI GT Big Block version, produced in 2018 with the GM V8 7.2-litre engine, accelerates to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds. Its top speed is 289 km/h. The power unit installed on it outputs 640 hp and its maximum torque equals 740 N·m. The car comes with a 5-speed manual transmission.
Bodies of these cars are manufactured of lightweight and durable materials, which allows significant weight reduction without impairing the safety characteristics. For example, the Ace roadster had an aluminium body, due to which the car’s weight was below 900 kg. Hand-assembled Cobra replicas in 2016 also featured aluminium AC car parts. The MK VI model, which debuted in 2009, had the same design. It weighed less than 1045 kg. While the MK VI GTSR roadster which is still on offer today has a carbon fibre body. This improves vehicle speed and acceleration dynamics significantly. It can accelerate to 332 km/h.
The luxurious interior of these vehicles, which resemble cars of the 1960s outside, has many sporty features. For instance, the interior of the first generation Cobra roadster was trimmed with leather, some elements were chrome-plated. The seats featured good lateral support. The basic trim included an audio system. The air conditioner was offered optionally. Today, like years ago, the manufacturer uses very little driver-assist systems. This way they reduce the weight of the vehicles.
