Information
KTM cars have been produced by the namesake Austrian enterprise since 1953. The production facilities are located in Graz, Austria. The model range includes motorcycles and the only sports car – X-Bow. It is produced since 2008 and marketed as a race car suitable for use on public roads.
Technical specifications of KTM cars
The cars are characterized by ultra-low weight. Kerb weight of the X-Bow roadster launched in 2007 is 790 kg. This was achieved through the use of durable and lightweight materials. For example, the frame is fully made of carbon fibre and weighs only 80 kg. Body panels are also made of carbon fibre. The suspension is made of aluminium. Power units have a relatively small displacement, however, they allow the vehicle to reach high speeds fast.
The manufacturer uses Audi engines. For the current vehicles, they use the TFSI 2-litre 300 hp power unit. The 2.5-litre turbocharged engine was installed until 2012. It outputted 237 hp, allowing the car to accelerate to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. The top speed was 217 km/h.
The modern roadster is equipped with the highly efficient Brembo brake system. The front brake discs have a diameter of 305 mm, the rear – 262 mm. Braking path of the RR version is 32.9 metres, from the moment the brake pedal is pressed to full stop. Brake pads retain their characteristics both at low and high temperatures. Apart from this, the manufacturer uses Michelin tyres of different sizes as parts for KTM. The front axle is equipped with R17 tyres, while the rear – with R18. These components ensure vehicle stability even on a wet road surface.
KTM cars feature a high level of safety. The driver’s seat is equipped with a headrest which provides lateral support for the head. 6- or 4-point seat belts are also offered. The former are installed on RR versions, the latter – on GT.
Buttons that control turn indicators and headlights are mounted on the multifunctional steering wheel, not below it. This solution allows the driver to get less distracted from the road. The windscreen is heated – the manufacturer uses especially thin wires, which are unnoticeable in any lighting conditions.
