Technical specifications of Volkswagen Polo III 6N1
The car had compact dimensions. Its length was 3715 mm, width – 1655 mm, height – 1420 mm. Despite small sizes, luggage compartment capacity varied between 245 and 945 liters. Ride height of 110 mm ensured the car’s stability on the road even during high-speed driving.
Main modifications
During manufacturing years, 13 modifications of Volkswagen Polo 6N1 (1994–1999) were released: 9 petrol and 4 diesel ones. One of the most fuel-efficient was 1.7 SDi.
It had the SDi 4-cylinder 8-valve engine with direct fuel injection, producing 60 hp, was equipped with manual 5-speed transmission and was able to accelerate to 157 km/h, while its loading capacity was 470 kg. The main advantage of this modification is a small fuel consumption: the car needed about 5.9 liters to travel 100 km in an urban cycle, and only 3.6 liters – on the highway. But as for dynamic characteristics, the diesel 1.7 SDi was inferior to other modifications: acceleration to 100 km/h took 17.4 seconds, while the 1.4 16V took just 10.5 seconds for this, and the 1998 GTI with 16-valve 120 hp engine – just 9.1 seconds.
Polo III 6N1 configurations
VW Polo III hatchbacks had no named trim levels, but the large list of additional options helped to adapt the car to your needs in the best possible way. Standard equipment of the car included height-adjustable seats and steering column, central locking and power steering, and keyless entry system. The rear seats had headrests and could be folded. The windows were tinted. Since 1998 driver and front passenger airbags, as well as fog lights was added to standard equipment.
Air-conditioner, anti-lock brake system, heated seats and mirrors, power sunroof and power windows could be installed on Polo 6N1 (1994–1999) for an additional fee. Apart from this, exterior could be personalized using the GTI options pack - by installing a one-piece bumper, white turn indicators and tinted rear lights on the car.
Apart from a wide option range, limited versions of the hatchbacks were offered to customers. The brightest of them is the Harlekin. Body of this car was painted in four colours simultaneously: green, yellow, blue and red; moreover, a customer buying the car didn’t know which combination he would get.
