Technical specifications of Volkswagen Golf V 1K1
In comparison to previous generation cars the hatchback became bigger: its length was 4204 mm, width – 1759 mm, height – 1479 mm. This allowed to increase room for rear seat passengers by 65 mm. The luggage compartment capacity was increased as well, and became 350 to 1305 litres depending on rear seat position. Road clearance wasn’t changed and equalled 130 mm. Hatchbacks had different dimensions in sportive modifications: for example, length, width and height of Golf V GTI were 4216, 1759 and 1501 mm respectively.
During production years, about 50 modifications of VW Golf 1K1 (2003–2009) were manufactured, amongst which more than 25 were diesel ones. The most fuel-efficient of them was the 1.9 TDI BlueMotion MT: a 4-cylinder engine, producing 105 hp consumed only 3.8 litres of fuel on the highway, about 4.5 l in a combined cycle, and about 5.8 litres in an urban cycle.
A turbocharger, manual gearbox, low drag coefficient, which was achieved by additional body kit and use of special configuration of windscreen wiper blades, allowed to decrease the fuel consumption. Information about an optimal gear for specific road conditions was displayed on the on-board computer screen to help save fuel. Also, light-weight tyres with low rolling resistance were installed on the car. Loading capacity of the modification was high and equalled 556 kg.
Configurations of Golf V 1K1
Volkswagen Golf V hatchbacks were produced in three main trim levels: Trendline, Comfortline and GT Sport, as well as in several limited series. In the GT Sport configuration, climate-control, cruise control, 6 airbags, auto dimming rear view mirror, parking sensors, multifunction display (informing the driver about outside temperature, fuel consumption and average speed) and other components were installed on the car. Comfortable seats had a wide range of adjustments. The three-spoke steering wheel was trimmed with leather. Black radiator grille with a large GT Sport logo made the car recognizable.
