Technical specifications of Volkswagen Polo IV 9N
The car was built on the same platform as the Audi A2 and Seat Ibiza, but its body was longer. Width, length and height of the hatchback were 1650, 3894 and 1465 mm respectively. Volume of the luggage compartment with folded seats reached 1030 liters, with unfolded – 270 liters. Low road clearance of 110 mm added more stability on a road.
Main modifications
10 modifications of Polo 9N (2001–2005) with a 3-door body were presented during production years: 6 of them were petrol and 4 - diesel; as well as 16 modifications with a 5-door body: 10 petrol and 6 diesel ones. One of the most powerful and remarkable modifications, Fun 1.9 TDI was released in 2003. The car is known as Polo Dune in the Great Britain.
The car was made for active driving fans. 4-cylinder 8-valve TDI turbocharged engine with Common Rail fuel injection system was installed under its bonnet; it was able to develop up to 101 hp. The car accelerated to 100 km/h in 11.5 seconds and its top speed was 182 km/h. Presence of the turbine and direct injection system not only improved efficiency of fuel-and-air mixture formation, but helped to reduce fuel consumption and amount of harmful emissions into the atmosphere. On the average, about 5.1 liters of fuel was required to travel 100 km in a combined cycle, 6.6 liters – in the city, 4.2 liters – on the highway. Loading capacity of the car was 453 kg.
Fun 1.9 TDI hatchback differed from other modifications in brake system design and road clearance, increased by 20 mm, which became possible due to installation of 17-inch wheel rims and low-profile 215/70 R17 tyres. Brake discs of 232 mm diameter were installed on the rear axle of Volkswagen Polo 9N (2001–2005) instead of drums. Front brake discs were vented and had a diameter of 256 mm.
Configurations of Polo IV 9N
The car was available in various trim levels, amongst which the most popular ones were Comfortline, Highline and Sportline, while Athene, Atlantic were produced in limited series.
In Comfortline configuration VW Polo IV 9N hatchback was equipped with anti-lock brake system (ABS) with brake force distribution system (EBD), 4 airbags, power steering and central locking.
