Main modifications
Totally, 11 modifications of Polo 6N2 hatchbacks (1999–2001) were produced: 5 diesel and 6 petrol ones. The most powerful of them was the 1.6 16V GTI, released in 1999.
The car was equipped with a 4-cylinder 16-valve engine and 5-speed manual gearbox. Thanks to multi-point fuel injection system and presence of two camshafts the engine power was increased to 125 hp. This caused positive impact on dynamic characteristics: maximum speed of the car increased to 205 km/h and 100 km/h acceleration time reduced to 8.7 seconds. Moreover, the car consumed little fuel, on the average, about 9.8 liters in the city and about 5.5 liters – on the highway. Engine power was enough to transport 490 kg of cargo.
Configurations of Polo III 6N2
Polo 6N2 (1999–2001) hatchbacks were produced in four main trim levels: Basis, Comfortline, Trendline and Highline. A special list of options was offered for the GTI modification.
In the Comfortline configuration cars had height-adjustable front seats and steering column. Rear seats could be folded. Heated power side mirrors provided excellent observability due to absence of “blind spots”. Windscreen washer jets were also heated, which ensured quality window cleaning regardless to weather conditions. Front power windows had injury protection function. Airbags were provided for the driver and front passenger.
An anti-lock brake system, self-locking differential, navigation system, air-conditioner, heating and leather upholstery of the seats, light alloy wheel rims could be ordered for extra fee. In the Highline configuration, low-profile 185/55 R14 tyres were installed on the car, and GTI modification was notable for even more sportive tyres of 195/45 R15 size.
