Subaru Leone III (AA7) saloons technical specifications
Subaru Leone III (AA7) saloons were 4370 mm long, 1660 mm wide and 1385 mm high. The interior was five-seater. Volume of the luggage compartment was 421 litres. Road clearance was 170 mm.
Both suspensions were independent. The front car axle was equipped with ventilated brake discs. Brake drums were used on the rear axle.
Due to a high road clearance and short overhangs, the car was manoeuvrable when driving in mountainous areas. All-wheel drive, which could be either full- or part-time, helped to easily deal with slippery and snowy roads.
Main versions
About 10 versions of Subaru Leone III (AA7) were produced during the whole manufacturing period. All of them were equipped with petrol power units. They had either front- or all-wheel drive. Initially, there were only three gearboxes offered: 4- and 5-speed manual and 3-speed automatic. 4-speed automatic transmission with electronic control appeared in 1987; it transmitted torque between the axles depending on road conditions.
1.8 GT version was the most powerful and dynamic. It was equipped with 4-cylinder 8-valve boxer engine with multi-point fuel injection. The engine had 105 hp output and 142 N⋅m torque. The latter was reached at 3600 rpm. The version accelerated to 100 km/h in 10 seconds. Its top speed was 182 km/h. Fuel consumption in the combined cycle was 7.6 litres per 100 km. Maximum loading capacity of the version was 540 kg. The saloon had front-wheel drive and a 5-speed manual transmission.
Leone III (AA7) saloons trim levels
The cars were available in various trim levels, the most popular of which were STD, DL, GL, GT, Maia.
Maia trim included hydraulic power steering, front anti-roll bar, halogen headlights, radio receiver, anti-glare rear view mirror, rear windscreen heating. The interior was trimmed with fabric. Steering wheel leather cover and rear spoiler were offered optionally. The bumpers were painted in the body colour.
