Subaru Impreza II (GD) technical specifications

Compared to the previous generation, the cars increased in size. Their length, width and height were 4405 mm, 1730 mm and 1440 mm respectively. The luggage compartment increased as well: its capacity reached 401 litres. Road clearance was 150 mm.

Both suspensions were independent: the front one was of MacPherson type, and the rear – of the double wishbone type. Both vehicle axles were equipped with brake discs. Fixed brake calipers were installed on the WRX sports versions intended for the European market: four-piston for the front and two-piston for the rear. This guaranteed short braking path and fast stops even at high-speed driving.

Main versions

More than 20 versions of Subaru Impreza II (GD) were produced during the years of manufacture. All of them had petrol power units. The saloons were produced with front- and all-wheel drive. The latter were especially popular in Europe and the USA.

2.5 WRX STi AWD version was one of the most powerful. Its 4-cylinder 16-valve boxer engine was equipped with turbocharger which provided car acceleration up to 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds. The top speed was 255 km/h. Engine output was 280 hp. Maximum torque was 392 N⋅m. Fuel consumption was rather high: 15.3 litres per 100 km in the urban cycle, 10.9 litres – in the combined cycle and 8.3 litres in the extra-urban cycle. The carrying capacity was 430 kg. 6-speed manual transmission and 17-inch alloy wheel rims with low-profile tyres were installed on the car.

Impreza II (GD) trim levels

The following trim levels were available for Subaru Impreza II (GD) cars: Edition, Comfort Edition, Executive, Comfort, Solberg Edition and others.

The Executive trim car was equipped with anti-lock braking system with brakeforce distribution, differential locking, front and side airbags. The driver’s seat was height-adjustable. The steering wheel was trimmed with leather. The seats were sportive and had leather trimming as well. The power side mirrors were heated. The headlights had xenon bulbs. Both front and rear power windows were available in this car. Comfortable temperature inside the car was provided by climate control. Audio system was included into the factory-supplied equipment.
