Windscreen wiper linkage for the top car models
Windscreen wiper linkage for my car: your guide to buying wiper linkage online
Wiper pull rod is a component of the windscreen wiper. This system operates windscreen wiper motor. Reversible motors operate without linkage as they are equipped with a control unit. Vehicle with classic circular engines need the wiper pull rod. We speak about a mechanism one end of which is connected with the windscreen wiper motor, but another one with screen wipers.
Wear or an accident can result in a mechanical defect. If the windscreen wiper moves unevenly, the pull rod is damaged. Ball bearings that operate on joints are particularly susceptible to damage. In most cases it is necessary to replace the whole wiper pull rod. Linkage is subject to replacement in rare cases. Usually it is not difficult to replace the pull rod. Any car owner can do it. You need to remove the screen wiper and then to place it back.
It is very important to select an original spare car part. You need to know the car model to order the necessary wiper pull rod. Do not use the part that approximately fits the car. Malfunction of the wiper pull rod can result in glass damage. Does your car needs brake disk replacement? Or you need a new brake booster, flasher, expansion tank, brake shoes, nozzle or parking brake cable? In our assortment there are spare car parts for all popular and common car models.
How to identify a faulty windscreen wiper mechanism
Diagnostics of the mechanism should start with visual inspection of its components. The link should not be deformed, damaged or corroded. Special attention should be paid to the plastic bush and the lock ring, as due to these components the link interacts with the ball of the crank mechanism. Also, inspect the plastic elements, and make sure that all components of the mechanism are sufficiently lubricated.
For more thorough inspection of the link, it should be completely dismantled. The service life of the component is not limited; however, the link should be inspected annually, especially at the end of the cold season.
You may notice that the windscreen wiper mechanism requires diagnostics by the following criteria:
- the wipers move with different amplitude;
- the wiper arms are jammed;
- the levers move with jerks;
- creaking noise from under the hood is heard during wipers operation.
The reasons of the windscreen wiper mechanism malfunction
Wear of components, incorrect installation, and deformation are the most common reasons of incorrect operation of the windscreen wiper mechanism.
During vehicle operation, the ball of the crank mechanism and tabs of the lock ring often get out of order. To prevent malfunction, it is sufficient to regularly lubricate the ball cavity and the lock ring. Sometimes, wear results in loss of connection between links and other elements of the mechanism, but in most cases, there is no need to replace the entire assembly; it is sufficient to replace only the defective part. The system may fail due to the use of a lock ring with insufficient diameter and due to improper fastening of joints of the links — it results in deformation of the elements. Finally, the mechanism failure may be due to rust of metal parts.
Repairing and replacement of the windscreen wiper mechanism
Components of the mechanism can be used for quite a long time, therefore, their replacement is only required if rust and mechanical defects appear. It should be noted that the lock ring and the link bush are especially vulnerable. Repair cannot remove their defects, so the components are to be replaced.
To dismantle the link, first disconnect the wiper arms. To do so, remove the plastic caps and loosen the hex nuts of the wipers.
Then lift the hood, and remove the cover of the wiper mechanism. In most cases, it is fastened with clips. Then unscrew the mounting bolts of the wiper linkage, and dismantle the entire mechanism.
To replace plastic bushes and the lock rings of the linkage, the specialized repair kit will be required. Parameters of the latter should be stated in the technical documentation to the vehicle.
