Brake discs for car brands
Brake rotors: useful information
Brake disс is connected to the wheel hub. When braking brake blocks press themselves to the brake disс. Because of friction the speed goes down. As a rule, brake disсs are made only of a high-quality metal. They are harder then brake blocks that is why there is no necessity often to replace them. In modern sport cars instead of metal carbonado or composite ceramics is used. This kind of brakes is more effective. The following effectiveness increase is possible due to usage of ventilation ducts in brake disсs. While brake disс substitution, brake blocks are also subject to substitution.
In addition, brake blocks should be substituted pair wise on each axis in order braking to be steady on both sides. Otherwise, when braking, car can run away. Necessity in pair wise substitution of brake blocks is determined for safety reasons. As practice shows, it is not a problem because maintenance cycle may be organized thus that brake blocks’ and brake disсs’ substitution is made at the same time. Operations with brake system should be made only by skilled specialists. If because of incorrect brake disсs’ installation damnification will take place, insurance company won’t restitute.
Carmakers define brake disks wear limiting value. During the braking brake blocks press themselves to the brake disс. It happens so that because of stone hit disk was damaged. For safety reasons a premature replacement is required. In our online shop you will find not only brake disсs, but also all necessary car parts for brakes repair. If you search brake blocks, brake linings, brake force regulator, brake gear booster, brake calliper, brake disk, brake hose or brake drum, you will find them here.
Brake discs failures
- cracks on the working surface;
- component wear;
- mechanical damage of the part;
- «beads» at the surface;
- changing of the part thickness.
Signs of Brake rotors failures
- rasp, squeak and noise when braking;
- brake pedal vibration;
- increase of braking path;
- increase of brake fluid consumption;
- frequent car skids when braking;
- brake pedal falling in.
Causes of brake discs failures
- installation of defective covers;
- disregard of vehicle operation rules;
- aggressive driving style;
- external impact;
- end of discs operating period.
Diagnostics
Use a caliper gauge to define the condition of the disk. You have to compare the established thickness of the new disk and that of the disk mounted on your car. The admissible outrun equals the 100-th parts of millimeter. It is necessary to measure this size in a working zone where wearing down takes place.
Brake rotors repair and replacement
The most vulnerable parts of the braking system are the brake disks that should be renewed regularly. It is recommended to perform replacement each 70000 – 80000 operational kilometers. However the drivers with aggressive style of driving have to change this part more often — every 20000 – 40000 operational kilometers. To replace the discs, do the following:
- secure the car in place;
- use the jack to lift the required side of the car and remove the wheel;
- release the piston of a working cylinder;
- remove dirt from the hub surface;
- unscrew bolts of the brake disc fixations towards the hub (you will need the help of the workmate);
- remove a brake caliper support;
- demount the caliper unit;
- remove brake pads (perform their replacement if necessary);
- having secured the hub, remove the worn-out brake disc;
- install a new disc.
