SAAB 95 cars: technical specifications, versions and trim levels

The Saab 95: specifications
Depending on the version and year of manufacture, the length of the Saab 95 estate cars could be 4020-4410 mm, the width – 1570-1588 mm, the height – 1470-1492 mm. Customers could choose 5-, 6- or 7-seat cars. The rear-facing seats were additionally offered for 6- and 7-seat vehicles. The vehicle weight was about 1000 kg. The ride height reached 190 mm.
They had rear-hinged doors. Due to their large opening, it was comfortable to enter and exit the vehicle. Before the 1964 facelift, the headlights were round. After the restyling, they became rectangular.
The front suspension was independent, while the rear one – semi-independent. The front axle of the vehicle was fitted with brake discs and the rear one – with brake drums.
Main versions
There were about 10 versions of the Saab 95. They were all equipped with petrol engines. There were three kinds of power units: 0.8 l 3-cylinder one, 1.5 l 4-cylinder one and 1.7 l 4-cylinder one available on the US market. It was equipped with a 4-speed manual transmission. A special handle allowed to disengage the transmission from the driveshaft, i.e. put the car into a "freewheeling" mode, thus reducing fuel consumption when coasting downhill.
One of the most popular versions was a 1.5 MT (65 hp) model. The maximum torque of the power unit was 115 N·m. The latter could be achieved at 2500 rpm. The maximum speed reached 155 kph. Its load capacity reached 500 kg.
95 trim levels
The Saab 95 cars had a rich for that time equipment. Since 1962, they had factory-installed safety belts. They also had a collapsible steering column. A brake booster was included in the standard equipment. The headlights were synchronized with the ignition switch, thus preventing the battery discharge in case you forgot to turn the lights off. There were headlight washers and heated driver’s seat as well. Cars of the last years of manufacture could boast a heated rear window.
