RENAULT Twingo I Hatchback cars: technical specifications, versions and trim levels
Renault Twingo I (C06_) cars are 3-door hatchbacks produced in 1993–2012. They debuted at the Paris Motor Show in 1992. The attractive design of the novelty got public attention instantly: 2240 attendees wanted to buy it right there at the presentation. Totally, more than 2.6 million of these cars were produced over the years. The popularity of these cars was mostly determined by their low price: these hatchbacks were among the cheapest on the market when they were released. Technical characteristics of Renault Twingo I (C06_)
Renault Twingo I (C06_) hatchbacks were only 3433 mm long, 1630 mm wide and 1423 mm high. The luggage compartment capacity varied between 168 and 1096 litres. Road clearance was 120 mm.
The car had 4 seats. The rear seats were equipped with a sliding mechanism that allowed moving them fore and aft up to 17 cm. This helped to increase the capacity of the luggage compartment, if necessary, or to free more legroom for rear passengers. Moreover, all seats had folding backs.
The front suspension was independent, the rear – semi-independent. Brake discs were installed on the front axle of the vehicle, drums – on the rear axle.
Main versions
In total, more than 10 versions of Renault Twingo I (C06_) were produced. All of them were petrol. The engine was mounted in the front part of the car. These vehicles were front-wheel-drive.
The hatchbacks featured wonderful fuel efficiency. For instance, the version Easy, equipped with a 4-cylinder 8-valve engine, consumed only 5.1 litres of petrol in the extra-urban cycle, 6.3 litres – in the combined cycle and 7.5 litres – in the urban cycle. The engine’s output of 60 hp and torque of 93 N⋅m was enough to accelerate the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 14.4 seconds and attain a top speed of 151 km/h. The loading capacity of the vehicle was 385 kg.
This version was equipped with a 5-speed automated manual transmission, which made driving the car much more comfortable.
Trim levels of Twingo I (C06_)
Initially, Renault Twingo I (C06_) hatchbacks had minimal equipment. But gradually, the options list was expanded, and new equipment was added to the basic trim level.
The factory-installed equipment of the hatchbacks with the Easy trim level included only central locking, front electric windows, tinted windows and power mirrors, as well as intermittent windscreen wipers. But for an extra charge, the car could be fitted with an air conditioner, anti-lock braking system, power steering, sunroof and front airbags.
