Mercedes-Benz W124 technical specifications

The car W124 (1984–1995) was 4,740 mm long, 1,740 mm wide and 1,428 mm high. The luggage compartment volume was 521 litres. The road clearance was 160 mm. The front and rear suspensions were multi-link. Brake discs were installed on both the front and rear axles.

Main versions

34 petrol and 12 diesel versions of the Mercedes-Benz W124 were produced before the 1989’s restyling; 30 petrol and 19 diesel modifications - in 1989–1993; 13 petrol and 10 diesel versions - in 1993–1995 period.

The rear-wheel-drive 500 E version designed in cooperation with Porsche was the most powerful one among those produced before. It was equipped with a 320 hp 5 L engine with the maximum torque of 470 Nm. The car could reach 250 km/h, and accelerate to 100 km/h just in 6.1 seconds. A specially designed plastic molding in the front body part, which directed the airflow under the car body, contributed to the car dynamic performance.

The LH-Jetronic electronic fuel injection system provided optimal formation of the air-fuel mixture, thus contributing to the fuel efficiency and lowering toxicity of exhaust gases. Fuel consumption in urban cycle was 16.9 litres per 100 km, extra-urban – 10.3 litres, combined – 11.9 litres. The rear suspension was equipped with the hydro-pneumatic ride height adjustment function.

Even in the basic configuration the car could boast a heated windscreen washer tank and jets, remotely adjustable rear headrests, heated side mirrors, ventilated brake discs, dual-stage airbags, front and rear power windows. Some versions were standardly equipped with an air-conditioner, anti-slip system, self-locking differential and other systems. Double door seals provided good soundproofing.
