Mazda MX-3 (EC) cars are coupes produced from 1991 till 1998. They had 4 seats. A relatively low weight and low centre of gravity positively affected their speed performance. Check out our online shop assortment if you are looking where to buy spare parts for Mazda MX-3 (1991–1998) and get a good deal. Many brake pads, oil filters, spark plugs and other parts are sold here inexpensively, so you can save money.
Technical specifications of Mazda MX-3 (EC)
The body dimensions were the following: the length – 4,220 mm, the width – 1,695 mm, the height – 1,310 mm. The road clearance was 145 mm. The loading capacity did not exceed 430 kg. Objects with the total volume of up to 390 litres could be transported in the luggage compartment.
The car had an independent suspension. MacPherson struts were mounted in the front, and a multi-link structure – in the rear. For the rear suspension, the manufacturer used the brand’s in-house technology, Twin-Trapezoidal Link. It positively affected the steerability, ensured smooth ride, and helped to reduce to the minimum the car body roll during maneuvering. Ventilated brake discs were installed on the front axle. The rear axle could be equipped with drum or disc mechanisms.
Main versions
8 versions of Mazda MX-3 EC (1991–1998) were presented during the manufacturing period. All of them were petrol and FWD.
The 1.8 i V6 MT version was equipped with the K8 engine - one of the most compact 6-cylinder power units of that time. The particular feature of this in-house engine was the variable resonance induction system (VRIS). This technological solution consisted in the following: the intake manifold was equipped with chambers tuned to a specific resonant frequency. The control unit dynamically switched between them. This way, an appropriate resonant frequency was achieved for various engine rotation speeds. Thus, the VRIS ensured dynamic forced charging by creating pressure in the intake manifold. Use of this technology had a positive effect on the fuel combustion efficiency. The other specific features of the K engines are aluminium body and cylinder bank angle of 60°. The crankshaft was made of forged steel, the connecting rods – of light-weight carbon steel.
The engine used in the 1.8 i V6 MT version, was characterized by 133 hp output and 157 Nm of torque reached at 4,500 rpm. The coupe accelerated to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds, while its top speed was 202 km/h.
Trim levels of MX-3 EC
The manufacturer offered the basic and a few extended trim levels. Even in the basic trim the coupe was equipped with the central lock, tinted windows, power windows and power sunroof.
