Technical specifications of Mazda Familia (BJ) saloon
The car dimensions differed depending on the production year. Before the restyling, the body length was 4,315 mm, after it – 4,365 mm. The width and the height remained the same and were 1,705 mm and 1,410 mm respectively. The road clearance was 140 mm. From the start of manufacturing, the maximum loading capacity of the car was not more than 540 kg, and in 2000 it was increased to 570 kg. The volume of the luggage compartment was 416 litres.
The front axle of the vehicle was equipped with ventilated brake discs. Drum mechanisms were used on the rear axle.

Mazda Familia (1998–2003) saloon was produced in 12 front-wheel driven versions. 9 of them were petrol and 3 – diesel.
The 2.0 MT version had a good dynamic performance. It was equipped with a 131 hp 4-cylinder 16-valve in-line engine with multipoint fuel injection. The max torque of the motor was 171 Nm at 4,500 rpm. The car could reach 203 km/h, and accelerated to 100 km/h in 9.7 seconds. Fuel consumption figures were: 11.2 litres per 100 km in urban cycle, 6.9 litres – in extra-urban cycle, and 8.5 litres – in combined cycle.
Trim levels of Familia (BJ) saloon
The manufacturer offered such trim levels as LX, GLX, LS, GLS, GSE, SE, LXi, GSi, GXi, Sport, Turbo, and others. For example, the GSE trim included alloy wheel rims, an air conditioner, driver airbags, heated power mirrors, an anti-lock braking system. The car had front power windows, its roof was equipped with roof rails. Leather seat upholstery was also available.
