Information
Brake force regulator is used to control braking efficiency by using pneumatic or hydraulic brakes. Each time when braking front axle experiences additional load under the influence of physical forces, while load on rear axle decreases. This is especially critical when rear wheels have no good road adherence. When braking, brake force regulator creates a balance, so that braking forces are distributed evenly between both axles.
Many modern cars use electronic brake force regulator. Don’t confuse brake force regulator with antilock brake system (ABS). Braking efficiency for all situations can be optimized only when sharing the braking force regulator and ABS. ABS prevents locking of wheels, while braking forces regulator is operating. Malfunction of this part may cause braking delay. It is possible that rear brakes operate worse than the front and when braking car can be unstable. You must immediately replace brakes, as they are essential for safety.
The cases, when it is necessary to replace the brake force regulator, are very rare. Only in exceptional cases the cause of failure is wear. More often failure happens because of an accident. Diagnostics
It is rather difficult to diagnose the part breakage on your own. This is so because signs pointing at the force regulator and brake system elements breakage are similar to each other. Check the component every time you refill brake liquid once in 1-1,5 years. Wherein, the force regulator is used approximately for 2 years on the average.
Replacement of brake force regulator
The part cannot be repaired. If visual inspection defined, that the force regulator is out of service, it should be replaced. In case when system had serious faults and failures, disconnect the force regulator for a while. For this, connect the main brake cylinder straight to the rear circuit. To remove the old part and then install a new one, fasteners of two main pipes and two outgoing pipes must be unscrewed. The part replacement should be performed only at service stations.
