Technical characteristics of Volkswagen Transporter IV 70XA

Volkswagen Transporter IV 70XA vans were available in four-door body with two variants of the wheelbase and different roof height. Length of cars with the short wheelbase was 4707 mm, with the long one – 5107 mm. The car wheelbase itself was 2920 and 3320 mm accordingly. Van height varied depending on modifications: it was 1940 mm in cars with low roof, and 2430 mm – with high roof. Car width was 1840 mm not depending on body configuration, their road clearance was 150 mm. Luggage compartment volume could reach 7800 liters. The rear door could be solid lifting or two-leaf swing.

Main modifications

The car had front independent suspension and rear multi-link suspension, and construction of the brake system in this modification presupposed use of brake discs on the front axle, and brake drums – on the rear one.

Basic configuration of VW Transporter IV 70XA vans included only the most necessary: power steering, two or three airbags, power windows, height and horizontally adjustable driver seat. Anti-lock braking system and electric sunroof were offered optionally. Air-conditioner was available only for cars with engines displacement of 2 and more liters. Instead of single passenger seat two-seat couch could be installed.
