Subaru Forester III (SH) cars were 4560 mm long, 1780 mm wide and 1700 mm high. The interior was five-seater. Depending on the rear seats configuration, the capacity of the luggage compartment varied from 450 to 1660 litres. Road clearance was 215 mm.

2.0D MT diesel version had balanced characteristics. This version engine had 4 cylinders and 16 valves. Its output reached 147 hp, and maximum torque was 350 N⋅m. Forester III (SH) cars were available in such trim packages as Exclusive, Premium, Comfort, Luxury, Executive and others.

The Luxury trim included anti-lock braking system with brakeforce distribution, brake assist, systems of stability and traction control, front, side and head airbags. The seats were heated. The rear ones were equipped with headrests. Buttons for audio system control were mounted on the steering wheel. Alloy wheel rims were included into the basic trim. The side mirrors had the function of automatic folding. Leather upholstery of the seats was offered for an extra charge.
