Subaru Forester III (SH) car is the third generation of compact crossovers that were produced from 2008 to 2012. They premiered on the Chicago Auto Show in the beginning of 2008. The same year, in autumn, the first diesel version of the model was presented in Paris. Compared to its predecessor, the car looked more aggressive. Subaru Forester III (SH) cars were 4560 mm long, 1780 mm wide and 1700 mm high. The interior was five-seater. Depending on the rear seats configuration, the capacity of the luggage compartment varied from 450 to 1660 litres. Road clearance was 215 mm.
Both suspensions were independent. They ensured the car with excellent combination of steerability and comfort. Using a boxer engine, engineers were able to significantly lower the crossover centre of gravity. This allowed to maintain stability even at high-speed maneuvering and in sharp turning. Main versions
More than 10 versions of Subaru Forester III (2008–2012) were produced during the years of manufacture. They included both diesel and petrol versions. Three transmission versions were available: 5-speed or 6-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. All the crossovers had all-wheel drive.
2.0D MT diesel version had balanced characteristics. This version engine had 4 cylinders and 16 valves. Its output reached 147 hp, and maximum torque was 350 N⋅m. Turbocharger, intercooler and Common Rail direct fuel injection system provided the car with perfect dynamics and low fuel consumption. Acceleration to 100 km/h took 10.4 seconds. The car’s top speed was 186 km/h. Fuel consumption was 7.2 litres per 100 km in the urban cycle, 6.3 litres in the combined cycle and 5.8 litres in the extra-urban cycle. The carrying capacity was 535 kg.
Forester III (SH) trim levels
Forester III (SH) cars were available in such trim packages as Exclusive, Premium, Comfort, Luxury, Executive and others.
The Luxury trim included anti-lock braking system with brakeforce distribution, brake assist, systems of stability and traction control, front, side and head airbags. The seats were heated. The rear ones were equipped with headrests. Buttons for audio system control were mounted on the steering wheel. Alloy wheel rims were included into the basic trim. The side mirrors had the function of automatic folding. Leather upholstery of the seats was offered for an extra charge.
