Technical characteristics of Renault Clio I
Car length was 3,709 mm, width – 1,616 to 1,625 mm, height – 1,395 mm. The capacity of the luggage compartment was either 265 or 1,055 litres depending on whether the rear seats were folded. Road clearance was 120 mm. The cabin had 5 seats.

The cars of limited series, Williams, were especially popular. 2-litre naturally aspirated engine with 4 cylinders and 16 valves was installed on them. Trim levels of Clio I
Renault Clio I hatchbacks were produced in three main trim levels: RL, RN and RT. Special equipment list was offered for 16V version and cars of limited series: Prima, Graffiti, Campus, Baccara, Caribe, Chiemsee, Fidji, Grand Prix, Limited, Maxi, Mexx, Oasis, RTi, RSi, Be Bop and others.
The front wings of the 16V version were made of a special self-healing composite material. They restored their initial shape after impacts happened at the speed lower than 15 km/h. A spoiler under the rear windscreen improved aerodynamics. The dashboard had an anti-glare coating and auxiliary gauges, informing about oil temperature, its level and pressure. The anti-lock braking system, airbags for the driver and front passenger, leather interior upholstery and split folding rear seats were offered for an extra charge.
