Peugeot 406 (8C) cars are 4-seat coupes produced in 1997–2005. They debuted at the Paris Motor Show. Designers from the famous Italian studio Pininfarina worked on creating the body of this model. Technical specifications of Peugeot 406 (8C)
The car body was longer than that of the saloon, but shorter than that of the estate car. The dimensions of the coupe were: 4,615 mm, 1,780 mm, 1,354 mm - in length, width and height, correspondingly. The road clearance was 130 mm. The volume of the luggage compartment reached 390 litres.
The front and rear suspensions were independent. Their stiffness could be adjusted from the driver’s seat with the help of the corresponding button. Brake discs were installed on both axles of the vehicle.
The rear seats were separate and, just as the front ones, they had headrests. The passenger compartment was very spacious, however, access to the rear seats was slightly hindered.
Main versions
About 10 versions of Peugeot 406 (8C) have been produced over the whole manufacturing period: almost all of them were petrol and only one was diesel. All the coupes were front-wheel driven.
The 2.2 HDI diesel version impressed with excellent dynamics. Moreover, it was fuel-efficient as well. Its 4-cylinder 16-valve motor was capable of developing 136 hp and 314 Nm of torque due to a turbocharger with an intercooler. The 5-speed manual transmission shifted gears smoothly and was characterized by high responsiveness. The car accelerated to 100 km/h in 10.2 seconds. Its top speed was 201 km/h. At the same time, fuel consumption was only 4.9 litres in extra-urban cycle, 6.4 litres – in combined cycle, and 8.8 litres – in urban cycle. The loading capacity of the version was 450 kg.
Trim levels of 406 (8C)
Apart from the basic trim, 406 (8C) cars were offered with Pack and Griffe trim levels.
In the Pack trim level, the coupe had an anti-lock braking system, front airbags (the side ones were offered for an extra charge), central lock with remote control, climate control, front and rear power windows, hydraulic power steering. The windows were tinted. The windscreen wipers were activated automatically by the rain sensor signal. The sport seats were upholstered with leather, heated, and had a lumbar support. The seats could be electrically adjusted. An audio system, trip computer, voice input function were also available as standard.
