Technical specifications of Opel Vivaro I J7
The car was available in two wheelbase variants. It could be 4,782 mm or 5,182 mm long. The width of the body was 1,904 mm, height – 1,959 mm. The interior could accommodate 6 to 9 persons. Besides, the front row had seats for the driver and two passengers. This became possible because the gear stick was relocated from the floor to the dashboard.
The cargo compartment capacity of a short-wheelbase 9-seat minivan reached 1.2 m3, and 2.2 m3 – for the long-wheelbase version. 6-seat Combi versions had more free space behind the seats: 2.6 m3 with a short wheelbase, 3.5 m3 – with a long wheelbase. Sliding doors on one or both car sides provided the access to the cabin. The rear door could be regular or a tailgate opening to the top. The former opened at an angle of up to 180° for easy loading.
The rear suspension was dependent but still quite comfortable. Brake discs were installed on both axles of the vehicle.
Main versions
A total of 53 versions of Opel Vivaro I J7 were produced from 2002 till 2014: 9 diesel and 3 petrol versions – before the facelift in 2006, 34 diesel and 7 petrol versions – after it.
The diesel 2.0 CDTI ecoFLEX L2H1 MT was one of the most fuel-efficient versions. It had a 4-cylinder 8-valve 90 hp engine with max torque of 240 N⋅m. This torque value was reached at 1,500 – 2,250 RPM (while 3,500 were the max). This ensured good traction at acceleration and low-speed driving. The car could travel at the top speed of 145 km/h. Its loading capacity reached 767 kg. Thanks to the turbocharger and Common Rail fuel injection system, fuel consumption was rather low for a car weighing over 2,200 kg. The vehicle consumed 6.6 litres per 100 km of travel in the extra-urban cycle, 9.1 litres – in the urban cycle and 6.6 litres – in the combined cycle. The manufacturer has installed a particulate filter on their minivan reduce harmful exhaust emissions.
Trim levels of Opel Vivaro I J7
Minivans were produced with various trim levels. The most famous were Essentia, Elegance, Cosmo and Sportive.
A car with the top trim level, Cosmo, could boast climate control, heated seats, satellite navigation, CD-player and other equipment. Light and rain sensors ensured automatic actuation of the headlights and windscreen wipers respectively. Expensive and high-quality materials were used for interior trimming.
