Technical features of Opel Omega B Caravan 21_, 22_, 23_
Opel Omega Caravan 21_, 22_, 23_ (1994–2003) estate car was 4,819 mm long, 1,786 mm wide and 1,505 mm high. The luggage compartment capacity varied between 530 and 1,800 litres. Road clearance was 140 mm. Independent front and rear suspensions were highly durable and absorbed road irregularities wonderfully. Brake discs were fitted both on the front and rear axles of the vehicle. The passenger compartment could accommodate up to 5 persons.
Dimensions of the estate changed slightly after the 1999 facelift. Its length, width and height were 4,898 mm, 1,776 mm and 1,545 mm respectively. The luggage compartment capacity increased to 540 litres.
Main versions
A total of about 30 versions of Opel Omega B Caravan 21_, 22_, 23_ were released. 8 petrol and 3 diesel versions were manufactured before the facelift in 1999, 9 petrol and 6 diesel ones – after. They were all RWD and could be equipped with 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission.
The diesel version 2.5 DTI 150 hp featured most interesting innovations. It was the first car of the make to be equipped with the Common Rail direct fuel injection system. The estate had the M57 engine, engineered by BMW. Various versions of this power unit were awarded as International Engine of the Year more than once. Supported by the turbocharger and intercooler, the power unit was able to accelerate the car to 100 km/h in 11 seconds. The top speed of the version equalled 200 km/h. At the same time, the fuel consumption was rather low: 7.8 litres per 100 km of travel in combined cycle on the average. The loading capacity of the car reached 650 kg.
Trim levels of Opel Omega B Caravan 21_, 22_, 23_
Opel Omega B Caravan 21_, 22_, 23_ estate cars could be purchased in the following trim levels: CD, GL, Elegance, Executive, Club, Selection, Sport, Edition, Edition 2000, Voyage and others. A special list of options was offered for each of them.
The top trim level of the car included front and side airbags, seat belts with pretensioners, active headrests, cruise control, xenon headlights, navigation system. Natural wood inserts were used for interior trimming, while the seats and steering wheel could be trimmed with leather.
