Length of Opel Astra G CC T98 F48, F08 was 4,110 mm, width – 1,709 mm, height – 1,425 mm. The luggage compartment capacity varied between 370 and 1,180 litres. Ground clearance was 140 mm but could reach 160 mm in some versions.

The vehicle had ventilated brake discs on the front axle. The rear one could be equipped with either disc or drum brakes. The front suspension was independent and the rear one– semi-independent. Over the years of production, more than 60 versions of Opel Astra hatchbacks (1998–2009) were made: 24 petrol, 9 diesel ones with a 3-door body, 22 petrol and 11 diesel ones with 5 doors.

One of the most interesting versions was 1.7 CDTI Eco4 MT diesel. A new engine of the Ecotec family was installed on it. Its main advantage was a special design of the intake manifold that recirculated a certain amount of exhaust fumes to engine cylinders for further burning in the combustion chambers. Generally, this allowed reducing significantly the concentration of harmful substances in the exhaust and improving fuel efficiency. The car consumed 5.9 litres per 100 km in city conditions, 4.4 – in the combined cycle and 3.5 – on a highway. The max power of this engine was 80 hp. This was enough for the hatchback to reach 100 km/h in 14 seconds and attain the top speed of 178 km/h. At the same time, cargo capacity was 445 kg.
