Technical characteristics of Citroën Berlingo I (M_)
Citroën Berlingo I (M_) vans had the following dimensions: the length, width and height of 4108 mm, 1719 mm and 1801 mm, respectively. After the facelift, dimensions slightly changed: 4137 mm, 1724 mm and 1810 mm. Road clearance was 140 mm. The capacity of the cargo compartment reached 3 m3. The spare wheel was mounted below the car underbody, which allowed installing it without having to unload the car.
The body had 3 doors. A conventional rear door with two leaves provided access to the cargo compartment. The compartment was separated from the cabin by a mesh bulkhead.
Both front and rear suspensions were independent. The former ensured excellent steerability of the vehicle. The second withstood heavy loads well.
Brake discs were installed on the vehicle front axle, drums – on the rear.
Main versions
About 20 versions of Citroën Berlingo I (M_) were released during the years of manufacturing. They included petrol, diesel, dual-fuel and electric vehicles. As a rule, they were front-wheel-drive, though all-wheel-drive versions were also produced. Moreover, there were FWD vans with a limited slip differential.
The petrol version, 1.6 i 16v MT, featured a balanced combination of fuel efficiency and dynamics. It was equipped with a 4-cylinder 16-valve engine producing 81 hp and the torque of 147 N⋅m. Top speed of the van was 170 km/h. Acceleration to 100 km/h took 13.1 seconds. The car consumed 9.5 litres of fuel per 100 km in the urban cycle, 7.4 litres – in the combined cycle and 6.2 litres – in the extra-urban cycle. Maximum loading capacity of this van was 600 kg.
Trim levels of Berlingo I (M_)
Initially, the equipment list of Berlingo I (M_) vans was not very extensive. Depending on a version, the vehicle could have tinted windows, rear window wiper, power steering as standard. Anti-lock braking system and airbags were available for an extra charge. Later, they started to equip more powerful versions with the driver airbag, air conditioner, anti-lock braking system with brake force distribution, side mirrors with electric adjustment and heating, electric windows. A sunroof, trip computer, 15-inch alloy wheels and ISOFIX attachment points for child seats appeared in the options list.
