The length of the coupe was 4,091 mm, its width was 1,781 mm and height was 1,268 mm. The capacity of the luggage compartment might vary within a range of 285 – 340 l. The ride height was 110 mm. The dimensions of the M version were slightly different: its length, height and width were 4,113 mm, 1,781 mm and 1,287 respectively and the capacity of the luggage compartment was 245–300 l.
During the years of the production, there have been 6 versions of the BMW Z4 (E86) produced, all of them were petrol. The range of the engines contains two power units. One of the most popular variants is 3.0si MT (265 hp).
It was equipped with a 6-cylinder engine with multipoint fuel injection and the torque of 315 N⋅m which was achieved at 2750 RPM a minute. Thanks to that, the vehicle could boast excellent dynamics: it accelerated to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and its maximum speed could reach 250 km/h. The carrying capacity of the version was 330 kg. Low centre of gravity and rear-wheel drive ensured excellent steering response of the vehicle, its manoeuvrability and stability.
Valvetronic, the variable valve lift system, and Vanos, the steplessly variable valve timing system, improved its dynamics and ensured more efficient engine performance. It took 13 l of fuel on average to cover 100 km in an urban area, 6.5 l – on a highway and 8.9 l – driving in the mixed cycle.
The trim packages of the BMW Z4 (E86)
The BMW Z4 coupes (E86) were mostly supplied with the base trim. Some markets also offered Executive configuration and it was possible to order a sports package of options.
The base trim was characterised by a huge range of equipment. Electronic systems included anti-lock braking system, stability programme and traction control, braking assist. The passive safety was provided by front and side airbags, air curtains and also active headrests. ISOFIX child seat fittings were available as an optional extra. Comfort was ensured by a two-zone climate control, heated steering wheel and seats. Apart from that, seats were electrically adjustable and were fitted with a position memory function. The control buttons of the sound system with 10 speakers and gear paddles could be found on the steering wheel. Leather and aluminium insertions were widely used in the interior upholstery.
