BMW Z4 Roadster (E89) cars: technical specifications, versions and trim levels
The BMW Z4 (E89) vehicles are two-seat roadsters manufactured between 2009 and 2016. These were the first vehicles from the Z series with a hardtop instead of fabric roof. Moreover, it was the first model of the brand whose design was developed by women – Juliane Blasi and Nadya Arnaout. Their efforts were crowned with success: after the official debut at the North American International Auto Show, the car was honoured with three awards for the design: the award established by the exhibition itself, the award presented by the Industrial Designers Society of America and the Red Dot Design Award. During the years of the production, there were 116045 units of these cars made. You can buy BMW Z4 (the E89) parts in our online shop. The technical specifications of the BMW Z4 (E89)
The length of the roadster was 4,239 mm, its width was 1,790 mm and the height was 1,291 mm. The capacity of the luggage compartment with retracted hardtop was 180 l and with closed hardtop was 310 l. The ride height reached 130 mm. The hydraulic retractable hardtop roof folded in 20 seconds and it could be retracted and extended even at the speed of almost 40 km/h.
Main versions
During the years of the production, there were 19 versions of the BMW Z4 (E89) roadsters made, all of them were petrol. The most powerful engine in the line was sDrive35is DKG (340 hp).
It was fitted with a 6-cylinder 24-valve engine with direct fuel injection and turbocharger. Its maximum torque was 450 N⋅m achieved at 1500 RPM and above. The Overboost allowed for a short period of time to increase the boost pressure and the torque, as a result, when accelerating. Due to that, the roadster reached the speed of 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and could run at the speed of 250 km/h. 7-speed robotic transmission with dual-clutch provided instant and comfortable gear-shifting.
The ride height of this model was reduced to 124 mm and carrying capacity reached 330 l. The average fuel consumption was 12.6 l per 100 km in the urban area, 9 l – in the mixed cycle and 6.9 l – on a highway.
The trim packages of the BMW Z4 (E89)
The Z4 (E89) roadsters were offered, as a rule, with the base trim which might be extended with the help of additional equipment. The customers could choose from Design Pure Balance, Design Pure Traction, M Sport, Design Pure Impulse, Design Pure Fusion option packages. On the markets of some countries, there were Executive and High Executive packages also available.
The standard equipment might differ depending on the version. The standard list of the equipment of all roadsters included the EfficientDynamics system, which consisted of several subsystems such as Brake Energy Regeneration, Start-stop system, power steering, driving dynamics control with Comfort, ECO PRO and Sport modes. It was also possible to order an adaptive suspension stiffness of which could be adjusted considering the road conditions and driving style.
