The technical specifications of the BMW 5 series (the E61 Touring)
The estate car was 4,843 mm long, 1,846 mm wide and 1,491 mm high. Depending on the position of the rear seatbacks and spare wheel, the capacity of the luggage compartment could vary within a range of 500-1,650 l. The ride height was 142 mm.

Between 2004 and 2010, 54 versions of the BMW 5 series estate cars (the E61 Touring) were produced: 16 petrol, 11 diesel before the facelift of 2007 and the same number after it.
The diesel 530d MT (235 hp) had balanced characteristics. It was fitted with a 6-cylinder 24-valve М57 engine which was awarded International Engine of the Year 2005. Its main advantage was high power output and low fuel consumption. The power unit had the torque of 500 Н⋅м which was achieved at 1,750-3,000 RPM. Due to that, the car could accelerate up to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds and reach the speed of 245 km/h, the fuel consumption per 100 km was 5.3 l on a motorway, 8.8 l in an urban area and 6.6 l in the mixed cycle. The carrying capacity of the version reached 600 kg.
The trim packages of the 5 series (the E61 Touring)
The 5 series estate cars (the E61 Touring) were marketed with three main packages: basic, Executive and High Executive. In 2009, the Business Line trim was added.
The standard equipment might differ depending on the engine and version. As a rule, at the plant, the estate car was fitted with anti-lock braking system with the electronic brakeforce distribution system, electronic stability programme and traction control and also emergency braking assist, cruise-control, front active headrests, airbags and curtain airbags for the driver and all the passengers. The Start/Stop system provided better fuel economy and more comfortable driving. Heated, electrically adjustable front seats were available as an extra option. Wing mirrors were electrically adjustable as well.
It was possible to order for an extra charge the Professional navigation system with the iDrive Touch controller, 8.8-inch LCD screen, DVD-drive and DVB-T tuner as well as with the sound systems with 13 speakers and 2 subwoofers under the front seats.
The adaptive lighting system was also available as an option; later daytime running lights in the form of LED circles appeared as well. Depending on the version, the estate car could be fitted with 16-, 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels.
