BMW 1 Hatchback (E87) cars: technical specifications, versions and trim levels
The BMW 1 series (the E87) vehicles are five-door hatchbacks produced from 2004 to 2011. Depending on the configuration, they could be either 4- or 5-seaters. Main advantages of these vehicles are excellent dynamics and high level of safety: the car earned the highest 5-star rating in the EuroNCAP crash tests in 2004. You can buy BMW 1 series (the E87) parts in our online shop at an affordable price: you can purchase windscreen wipers, oil, fuel filters and spark plugs with significant discounts.
The technical specifications of the BMW 1 series (the E87)
The length of the BMW 1 series hatchback (the E87) was 4,227 mm, its width was 1,751 and the height was 1,430 mm. The ride height was 145 mm. The capacity of the luggage compartment varied within a range of 330 – 1,150 l depending on the configuration of the rear seats. After the facelift of 2007, the dimensions of the car were slightly changed: its length, width and height were 4,239 mm, 1,748 mm and 1,421 mm, respectively. The streamlined body was characterised by low drag coefficient – just 0.29.
Main versions
Before the facelift of 2007, there were manufactured 11 petrol, 4 diesel variants of the BMW E87 hatchbacks and 24 petrol and 21 diesel after it.
One of the most interesting variants, as far as the implementation of technical innovations is concerned, is diesel 123d AT (204 hp). The 123d engine with two balance shafts and the torque of 400 Н⋅м ran quietly and steadily and twin turbocharger provided excellent traction characteristics and dynamics both at low and high speeds. The 123d engine became the winner of the contest Engine of the Year Awards three times: in 2008, it surpassed its competitors in the “Best New Engine of the Year” category and in 2010 and 2011 became the best in its segment. Due to the powerful 123d engine, the hatchback accelerated to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds and its maximum speed reached 236 km/h. The fuel consumption was low for such characteristics: only 7.9 l per 100 km in an urban area, 6.1 l in the mixed cycle and 5.1 l on a highway. The carrying capacity of the version reached 500 kg.
The trim packages of the 1 series (the E87)
Apart from the basic package, the 1 series crossovers (the E87) were offered with Executive and High Executive ones. Different equipment configuration was offered for the Business Line Ultimate, EfficientDynamics Edition and Lifestyle Edition. There were extra options for the M Sport Package and Aerodynamic Package. The standard equipment of the car included electronic stability control, emergency braking assist, traction control and anti-lock braking system. Hydraulic power steering was standard equipment as well, and for an extra charge, it was possible to order Servotronic steering. Multifunctional steering wheel with shift paddles, leather interior upholstery, heated foldable mirrors, electronically adjustable front seats, a navigation system, climate control and CD-changer were also available as optional extras.
