Subaru Outback IV (BM) technical specifications
Compared to the previous generation cars, Subaru Outback IV (BM) became bigger. Its length, width and height were 4775 mm, 1820 mm and 1605 mm respectively. The interior was still five-seater but became more spacious. Due to this and upgraded rear suspension, the manufacturer was able to increase the volume of the luggage compartment: it varied from 526 to 1726 litres.
Both front and rear suspensions were independent. The undercarriage was significantly improved. Use of high-strength steel was in heavy loaded areas allowed to increase the undercarriage stiffness and reduce its weight at the same time. The engine, gearbox, differential and rear arms were fixed to the subframe, not to the body. The subframe was attached to the body by means of rubber mounts. This reduced the vibration transmitted to the interior and increased the level of acoustic comfort.
