Technical characteristics of Škoda Praktik (5J8)
Škoda Praktik (5J8) car was 4213 mm long, 1684 mm wide and 1607 mm high. Its road clearance was 140 mm. The cargo compartment capacity equalled 1.9 cubic metres. It was separated from the passenger compartment by a movable bulkhead. It could be moved 100 mm fore and aft. The body had 3 doors. The rear door was lifting.
Cargo compartment was lined with anti-skid material. In the corners of the body, the car had special eye rings for cargo fastening. The upper part of the bulkhead was made of mesh to improve observability. The rear windows were replaced with metal panels, painted in the body colour.
The front suspension was independent, the rear – semi-independent. All brake mechanisms were disc-type.
Main versions
Overall, about 10 versions of Škoda Praktik (5J8) vans were released. They had diesel and petrol power units. All of them were front-wheel-drive.
The petrol version 1.2 TSI (85 hp) was one of the most popular. It featured a 4-cylinder 8-valve engine with the max torque of 160 N⋅m and 5-speed manual transmission. The turbocharger promoted good dynamics and fuel economy. The van accelerated to 100 km/h in 12.6 seconds. Its top speed reached 172 km/h. At the same time, fuel consumption was moderate: 7.1 litres of petrol in the urban cycle, 5.7 litres – in the combined cycle and 4.9 litres – in the extra-urban cycle. The loading capacity of this version was 475 kg.
Trim levels of Praktik (5J8)
Praktik (5J8) vans had rather rich equipment. Depending on a trim level, they could have some or all of the following: an audio system with four speakers, air conditioner, adjustment system and heating of the seats, front airbags. The outer mirrors were electrically-adjustable and heated. The windows were also electric. The anti-lock braking system, central locking with remote control, and immobilizer were the standard features. Additional paid-for options included traction control, side airbags, fog lights, headlight washer, cruise control, CD-player with optional steering-wheel-mounted controls.
