The Saab 9-5 (YS3G): specifications
Compared to the predecessor, these vehicles became larger: they were 5008 mm long, 1868 mm wide and 1466 mm high. The interior was very spacious. It could comfortably accommodate the driver and four passengers.
Both suspensions were independent. Instead of a standard MacPherson strut, some models had its upgraded version — HiPer Strut. This kind of suspension featured a separate steering knuckle attached to the main strut assembly, due to which the camber change at cornering was significantly reduced, thus ensuring excellent steerability and improving tyre traction when manoeuvring. All wheels were fitted with brake discs.
Main versions
Throughout the production run, there were over 10 versions of the Saab 9-5 (YS3G). Apart from petrol and diesel models, there were bi-fuel which ran both on petrol and bioethanol. They could have either front-wheel or all-wheel drive.
The 2.8T V6 XWD version was powerful and dynamic. It was equipped with a 6-cylinder 24-valve engine with a turbocharger, intercooler and multipoint fuel injection system. The power unit produced 300 hp. The maximum torque was 400 N·m. It accelerated from 0 to 100 kph in 6.9 seconds. The maximum speed reached 250 kph. Fuel consumption per 100 km was 16.2 litres in the urban cycle, 10.6 litres in the combined cycle, 7.3 litres in the extra-urban. The load capacity was 595 kg. They all had an all-wheel drive. They were fitted with a 6-speed sequential automatic transmission.
