Technical characteristics of Peugeot 306 (7E, N3, N5)
The station wagon was 4344 mm long, 1680 mm wide and 1449 mm high. Volume of the luggage compartment varied in 442–1512 litres range according to the rear seats configuration. A special mesh prevented cargo from getting into passenger compartment.
Road clearance was 130 mm. MacPherson independent suspension was in the front. The rear, also independent, had torsion beams and contributed to passive steering. This positively affected the vehicle steerability and comfort.
The body was fully zinc-coated and didn’t rust over many years of use. The cabin had 5 seats. It was spacious and provided comfort even to tall passengers.
Main versions
About 15 versions of Peugeot 306 (7E, N3, N5) were produced during the whole manufacturing period. Diesel and petrol ones were among them. Torque was transmitted to the front axle in all versions.
XRdt 1.9 diesel version was popular among car enthusiasts. 4-cylinder 8-valve turbocharged engine with 196 N⋅m torque and 4000 max rpm was installed on it. It had 90 hp output, was reliable and fuel-efficient. Acceleration to 100 km/h took 14.1 seconds. Top speed of this version was only 175 km/h. Fuel consumption in urban cycle was mere 8.8 litres, 6.6 litres – in combined cycle and 5.2 litres – in extra-urban. Loading capacity equaled 480 kg.
Trim levels of 306 (7E, N3, N5)
A few trim levels were offered for 306 (1997–2002) station wagons. XN, XR, XT and XS were the most popular trims.
The equipment was quite rich. The car in XT trim level had factory-installed anti-lock braking system and front airbags. Side airbags were offered optionally. The front seats were heated and height-adjustable. The rear seats could be folded partially and were equipped with headrests as well as the front ones. Leather upholstery could be ordered for an extra charge. Basic equipment included audio-system with controls mounted on the steering wheel and voice control feature. The power side-view mirrors were heated. The windscreen wiper blades were activated by rain sensor.
