Its engine, designed in collaboration with Fiat, was at that time the world’s smallest 4-cylinder diesel engine with Common Rail direct fuel injection. In 2005 it even received the title «International Engine of the Year». Its 70 horsepowers and 170 N⋅m of torque were enough for the car to reach 100 km/h in 14.5 seconds and travel at the top speed of 165 km/h. A turbocharger and direct fuel injection reduced the fuel consumption to the minimum: the hatchback consumed only 3.7 litres of fuel in the extra-urban cycle, 4.4 litres – in the combined cycle, 5.6 litres – in urban conditions.

Even the basic trim featured a driver’s airbag, seat belts with pretensioners, central locking, power windows, immobilizer, car stereo, and air-conditioner. A trip-computer, cruise control, power steering, CD-player, parking and rain sensors were available for extra fee.
