Technical characteristics of Mini Cooper (R56)
At the launch, the body length of this model varied between 3699 and 3729 mm, depending on a version. Width and height were 1683 and 1407 mm respectively. Road clearance was 140 mm. Maximum loading capacity of the car reached 450 kg. The capacity of the luggage compartment was 160 litres, increasing to 680 litres with the rear seats folded.
After the facelift, the car body became 3723–3774 mm long and 1393–1407 mm high. Maximum loading capacity dropped to 300 kg. Other parameters didn’t change.
Vented brake discs were fitted to the front axle of this vehicle. The rear axle carried solid discs.
Main versions
Over 10 FWD versions of Mini Cooper (R56) were offered. These included petrol and diesel vehicles.
1.6 AT, highly fuel-efficient petrol version, was quite popular. This car had a 4-cylinder 16-valve in-line engine with direct fuel injection. Engine output equalled 122 hp, maximum torque – 160 N·m at 4250 rpm. Top speed of the car reached 203 km/h. It accelerated to 100 km/h in 9.1 seconds. Fuel consumption per 100 km in the urban cycle was 9.1 litres, in the extra-urban cycle – 5 litres, in the combined cycle – 6.5 litres.
Trim levels of Cooper (R56)
Apart from the standard trim, the model had quite a few extended ones. These included Baker Street, Bayswater, London, S, D, SD, JCW (John Cooper Works). All Mini Cooper R56 (2006–2016) hatchbacks had ABS, traction control system, front and side airbags, electric windows, and an audio system with CD-player as standard. Position of the steering wheel could be adjusted. The side mirrors were electric.
Baker Street trim level included an air-conditioner, alloy wheels, front fog lights, headlight washers, and heated side mirrors. The sport seats were partially trimmed with leather. Cruise-control and satellite navigation system were offered for an extra fee.
