Technical characteristics of Mini Cooper (R50, R53)
Body dimensions were the following: the length was 3626 mm, width – 1688 mm, height – 1408 mm. Ground clearance equalled 140 mm. Maximum loading capacity of the vehicle was 429 kg. The luggage compartment capacity was 160 litres and increased to 670 litres with the rear seats folded.
The vehicle had vented brake discs on the front axle and solid – on the rear one, and an independent suspension both in front and in the rear.
Main versions
A total of 10 FWD versions of Mini Cooper (R50, R53) were available. The manufacturer offered vehicles with both petrol and diesel power units.
1.6 CVT version with a stepless transmission was among the most popular. The car was equipped with 4-cylinder 16-valve in-line engine with port fuel injection. Engine output equalled 116 hp, maximum torque – 149 N·m at 4500 rpm. Trim levels of Cooper (R50, R53)
The basic and a few extended trim levels, such as S and S JCW, appeared on the market. All Mini Cooper (2001–2006) hatchbacks had factory-installed ABS, alloy wheels, front and side airbags. The side mirrors were electric, as well as all the windows. Position of the steering wheel could be adjusted. Partial leather seat trimming and an audio system with CD-player were offered optionally.
