The Kia Sorento I (JC) cars are five-door crossovers which were manufactured from 2002 to 2009 by the South Korean corporation Kia Motors. They are still produced in China. The vehicles could seat five people. The exterior and interior were created by German designer Peter Schreyer. These vehicles were presented at the 2002 Chicago Auto Show. Four years later, they were restyled. The Kia Sorento I (JC) technical specifications
Before the facelift, the body had the following dimensions: length – 4,567, width – 1,863, height – 1,730 mm. Their luggage compartment volume was 420 litres and could be increased up to 1960 litres with the rear seats folded. The ride height was 203 mm.
After the facelift, the length of the vehicle became 4,590 mm, the width – 1,885 mm and its height – 1,725 mm. Depending on the position of passenger seats, the luggage compartment volume varied from 441 to 1751 litres.
The front axle of the crossover was equipped with ventilated brake discs and the rear axle – with the solid ones. The front suspension was independent, of multi-link type, the rear one – dependent.
Main versions
There were over ten versions of the Kia Sorento I (JC) cars. There were both petrol and diesel ones among them. The vehicles had either rear-wheel drive or part-time AWD.
One of the most powerful versions was petrol 3.8 AWD AT. It had a V6 24-valve 266 hp engine. Its maximum torque was 353 N·m at 4,500 rpm. The fuel consumption per 100 km was 12.8 litres in the urban cycle, 10.7 litres in the extra-urban cycle and 12.4 litres in the combined cycle. The maximum speed of the crossover reached 195 kph. It accelerated from 0 to 100 kph in 8.5 seconds.
Sorento I (JC) trim levels
Apart from the LX “base” trim, there were extended ones: Xi, XE, XS, XSE, XT, Titan, EX. The standard equipment of all Kia Sorento I crossovers (the JC; 2002–2009) included ABS, front airbags, heated side mirrors. There was air conditioning, an audio system with a CD player and 8 speakers, power windows and a keyless entry system.
The extended XT trim included cruise control, car alarm, power sunroof, leather-trimmed interior, heated seats. Parking sensors, a sat nav, climate control, headlight washers as well as traction control system were offered for an extra fee.
