Technical specifications of Kia Rio III (UB) hatchbacks
Initially, the 5-door’s body length, width and height were 4120 mm, 1700 mm and 1470 mm respectively. Ground clearance was 160 mm and the maximum loading capacity was 520 kg. The boot capacity was 389 litres. The 3-door version had the following specifications: length of 4045 mm, width of 1720 mm and height of 1455 mm. The boot capacity was 289 litres. The ground clearance and maximum loading capacity were the same as those of the 5-door cars.
The length of the 5-door vehicle increased by 5 mm after restyling. The other specifications remained the same.
The front car suspension was independent with MacPherson struts, the rear was semi-dependent spring suspension. The front axle was equipped with ventilated brake discs, the rear with non-ventilated components or drum brakes.
Main versions
More than ten versions of Kia Rio III (UB) hatchbacks were produced, including petrol, diesel and hybrid versions. The latter ran on petrol or liquefied petroleum gas. All had FWD.
The 1.6 6MT petrol version was one of the most powerful. It was equipped with a 4-cylinder 16-valve in-line engine with 123 hp power. The maximum torque was 155 N·m at 4200 rpm. Fuel consumption was 7.6 litres per 100 km in the urban cycle, 4.9 litres in the extra-urban cycle and 5.9 litres in the combined cycle. The car’s maximum speed was 190 km/h and acceleration was 0 to 100 km/h in 10.3 seconds.
Trim levels of Rio III (UB) hatchbacks
Several trim levels were available: 1, 1 Air EcoDynamics, 1 Air, 2 EcoDynamics, SR7, VR7, 2, SE, 3 EcoDynamics, 3, 4, EX, SX, Comfort, Luxe, Prestige, Premium, Euro-2016, and Red Navi. The base trim of Kia Rio (2011–2017) hatchbacks included front electric windows, headlight adjuster. Apart from this, there was an anti-theft system, front and side airbags, a trip computer, and an audio system with a CD-player, AUX-port and Bluetooth.
The 4 trim was equipped with air-conditioning, cruise control, parking sensors, front fog lights, and a sunroof. The wing mirrors were heated and electrically adjustable and the front seats were heated. A navigation system was available as an optional extra.
