AUDI A6 C5 Avant (4B5) cars: technical specifications, versions and trim levels
Audi A6 Avant (C5, 4B5) vehicles are five-door estate cars which were manufactured between 1998 and 2005. They were characterised by low fuel consumption, a wide range of equipment and modern design. The model earned the third prize in the European Car of the Year competition in 1998. The famous American Car and Driver magazine included it into the ten best cars list in 2000 and 2001. Technical specifications of Audi A6 (C5, 4B5)
The Audi A6 Avant (the C5, 4B5) estate car with five seats was 4,796 mm long, 1,810 mm wide and 1,479 mm high. The luggage compartment capacity was as big as 1,590 l. The ride height was 120 mm. The bonnet and some suspension parts were made from aluminium alloys which allowed to reduce the body weight significantly, affected the fuel consumption and vehicle dynamics. Some versions featured an air suspension with automatic ride height adjustment as an optional extra.
Main versions
There were 30 versions of the Audi A6 Avant (C5) manufactured before the facelift of 2001: 20 petrol and 10 diesel ones. After that, there were 26 more: 16 petrol and 10 diesel ones.
The most powerful was the 4.2 tiptronic quattro version. Its 8-cylinder 40-valve V engine had the output of 300 hp with maximum RPM up to 6,200, and torque reaching 400 N⋅m. The speed was electronically limited to 250 km/h. The acceleration to 100 km/h took only 7.1 seconds, but the fuel consumption was considerable: nearly 19.4 l in an urban area, 13.1 l in the mixed cycle and 9.5 l on a highway. The payload capacity of the version was 540 kg.
The full-time all-wheel-drive system called quattro distributed the torque in the ratio of 50/50. However, up to 75% of the power might be distributed either to the front or to the rear axle.
The 5-speed tiptronic gearbox with optional manual mode provided excellent steering and road performance of the car in any conditions.
The front and rear axles of the estate car were fitted with drilled brake discs.
Trim packages of Audi A6 Avant (C5, 4B5)
Audi A6 Avant 4B5 (1997–2005) estate cars were mostly manufactured with one package – the base trim but the list of options could vary depending on the engine and version. The Advance and Pro Line packages were available on the markets of some countries.
The equipment list was extensive. The car could be fitted with 10 airbags, electric windows and heated electric side mirrors, anti-lock braking system, electronic stability and traction control, variable-ratio power steering, two-zone climate control with a charcoal cabin filter, Webasto auxiliary heater, navigation system with a large LCD screen, heated washer nozzles and wipers operating in the intermittent mode.
