AUDI A4 B6 Avant (8E5) cars: technical specifications, versions and trim levels
The Audi A4 Avant vehicles (the B6, 8E) are the second generation of mid-size five-door estate cars produced between 2001 and 2004. During this time, 482,633 units were manufactured. They compared favourably with their competitors: a spacious cabin could accommodate five people comfortably, aluminium alloys were widely used in the suspension and body structure, which improved its general dynamics and reduced fuel consumption. Both experts and car owners liked the estate car very much: in 2001, it received the prestigious Golden steering wheel award presented annually by the famous German magazine “Bild am Sonntag” and a year later, the readers of the “Auto, Motor und Sport” recognised it as the best in its class. Main versions
The second generation of Audi A4 Avant estate cars was produced in 37 versions: 25 petrol and 12 diesel ones. The petrol 2.0 FSI multitronic version was very interesting from the technical point of view.
Its 150 hp engine could produce 6,000 RPM and its maximal torque reached 200 N⋅m. The direct fuel injection system provided a homogeneous combustion and improved fuel efficiency. The dual fuel injection system, allowing to create a rich air-fuel mixture, made starting the engine in cold season much easier. The average fuel consumption per 100 km in the urban area was 10.5 l, in mixed cycle – 7.3 l, on a highway – 5.5 l of petrol. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h took 10.2 seconds. The maximum speed of this version was up to 206 km/h and its payload capacity was 525 kg.
The Multitronic continuously variable transmission with a wide range of gear ratios and a manual mode provided smooth gear shifting and excellent steerability regardless of road surface.
Trim packages of the Audi A4 Avant (the B6, 8E)
The standard equipment of Audi A4 Avant (the B6, 8E) estate cars included the Sideguard safety system which protects driver’s and passengers’ heads in side collisions. It was an excellent supplement to side airbags that were also offered as standard. Starting from 2003, the cars were fitted with a new navigation system with a 6.5-inch screen, DVD-player, multimedia interface which allowed to control important functions of the car, mp3-player and other equipment. Bi-xenon lights could be ordered for an extra charge. The S-line trim package, which included sports seats and 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels, helped to give the car a sporty look.
