Audi 100 C4, 4A specifications
The dimensions of the Audi 100 (1990-1994) sedan were impressive. Vehicle length was 4,790 mm, width was 1,777 mm, and the height was 1,429 mm. Therefore, the vehicle had roomy interior and a large luggage compartment with the volume of 510 l. Depending on the modification, the road clearance ranged between 101 and 131 mm.
Main modifications
Over the years the production, about 30 modifications of Audi 100 C4, 4A were released, most of which were gasoline. One of the most popular models, due to its balanced specifications, was the gasoline 2.8 quattro MT. It accelerated to 100 km/h in 8 seconds, and its maximum speed was up to 218 km/h. Fuel consumption in the highway was 8 l, in the city – about 14 l. The 6-cylinder V-engine with distributed fuel injection produced 174 hp. Its maximum torque of 250 N•m was achieved at 3,000 RPM. The payload of the modification was 578 kg.
The second generation of the quattro all-wheel drive system was used in the vehicle. In normal state, the torque was distributed between the axles in the ratio of 50/50, but if necessary, up to 75% of engine power was transmitted to the front or rear axle. This system was reliable and versatile: the vehicle showed excellent driving characteristics and performance on both dry asphalt and on slippery surfaces. The independent suspension on both axles ensured high level of comfort on all types of surfaces.
Configurations of 100 C4, 4A
The sedans were made in only one configuration — the basic one. However, it was accompanied by quite a large list of additional equipment. The vehicle had factory-installed system of passive safety Procon-ten. It consisted of wire cables that connected the seat belts, the steering column and the engine body. In case of frontal collision, when the engine moved towards the passenger compartment, the system automatically pulled the steering column in, thus, reducing the risk of head injury, and provides proper tension of the safety belts. Airbags were offered as an option. The vehicle also had power windows, a sunroof, electrically adjusted exterior rear-view mirrors, and a keyless access system. The driver's seat could be adjusted in various directions, and back-lighting intensity could be adjusted from the understeering switch.
