Information
As a rule, baggage compartment is situated in the back part of the car and is used for transport of freight. There are various kinds of baggage compartments. In many cars baggage compartment volume may be enlarged owing to folding seats. So, transportation of roomy freight becomes possible. According to international rule, baggage compartment volume is counted in litres. For many buyers, especially for families, baggage compartment size is an important criterion when choosing car.
Baggage compartment shape is determined by car body shape. Lining is made of a nonwoven fabric or flock. In case of inside damages the lining may be easily changed. Every manufacturer has different ways of laying lining but as a rule it is not difficult to change it. Also the baggage compartment may be equipped with special protective covering that is necessary for transportation of certain kinds of freight. Sometimes baggage compartment is equipped with cages for safety transportation of cats or dogs.
In the back part of the car body there is a special valve to close the baggage compartment. It is necessary to fix baggage compartment lid in up position. If it fails, it can be easily changed. When ordering the parts, it is very important to make sure you order that very model you need because in course of time parts shape is changing. If you need throttle valve, bellows, reserve tank, clutch bearing, brake shoe facing, braking controller, brake force regulator, brake hose or other car parts, you may address our online shop. In our online shop we offer a wide range of car parts.
The component is usually checked by inspection. Traces of oil on the surface of the strut, deformation of its cylinder or the rod, loosened fasteners are the symptoms of the need for replacement. New struts are also to be installed if the trunk lid does not remain in the open position.
More detailed inspection is possible only with the removed gas strut. In order to assess its condition, try to compress the component. If the rod is easily moved by hands, the pressure in the gas strut is insufficient for correct operation of the component.
You may notice that the gas strut of the trunk lid needs diagnostics by the following criteria:
Trunk lid gas struts often fail due to too aggressive operating conditions of the vehicle. In particular, low temperature of the environment contributes to reducing the pressure inside the cylinder. As a result, the efficiency of the component may be greatly reduced. Also, frequent driving on dusty roads results in fouling of the internal parts of the struts. This results in jamming of the piston rod or clogging of the bleed valves, and, as well, in the change of the initial properties of oil.
Sometimes malfunctions of the components are due to too intensive loads on the gas strut mechanism, for example, by increasing the weight of the trunk lid with extra noise insulation.
Poor quality of struts and excessive tightening torque may cause ruptures in the fasteners of gas struts. Loosened mounting bolts cause the same effect.
Another fault of the trunk lid gas struts is deformation. It occurs rather rarely, usually it is a result of an impact in an accident.
Trunk lid gas struts are not repairable. In case of malfunction, the components are to be replaced. Installation is easy to be done by yourself. Stick to the following algorithm:
