The height and diameter of the oil filter directly affect the volume of the filtered oil. The greater the height and diameter of the part, the larger filter surface is and therefore it can process greater volume of the filtered oil.

There are two types of oil filters based on their design:

1. A one-piece spin-on oil filter is a single piece, which consists of a metal body, a filter element and a bypass valve. Oil filters of this type must be discarded and replaced by new ones.
2. Oil filters that can be disassembled also consist of a metal body, a bypass valve and a filter element. The distinctive feature is that the valve and body are usually integrated into the engine, therefore only the filter material is replaced. The main advantages are low cost and easy installation.
