Hi, I’m looking for a voltage regulator to control the positive side of a field winding. Could you confirm if the DF connection on this unit is 12v positive? I assume that D+ is a switched live positive supply, D- is the 0V supply and I hope this unit switches a positive output to energise an alternator field coil. Many thanks.

Dear customer,
Thank you for your question.
The DF (Drive Field) connection on the Alternator Regulator 130216 HITACHI is not a constant positive 12V source. It is used to regulate the excitation current to the generator rotor winding. The voltage on this pin is pulsed or modulated, and is controlled by the regulator itself depending on the state of charge. Please also note the following details:
* D+ is usually the output to the control lamp on the instrument panel. It can be a switched positive signal, but is not intended to supply the excitation winding directly.
* D- is ground (0V), used as a reference point.
* DF is not just "+12V", but a regulated current output for excitation of the generator.
