Technical characteristics of Volkswagen Bora 1J6
Volkswagen Bora 1J6 estate was longer than the sedan: its length was 4409 mm, width – 1735 mm, and height – 1485 mm. Due to increased rear overhang, luggage compartment capacity reached 460 liters with unfolded rear seats, and 1470 liters - with folded. Road clearance of the estate car was the same as of most models, built on the Volkswagen Golf IV platform – 130 mm.
Wide range of engines was installed in Volkswagen Bora estate (1999–2005). Totally, 33 modifications of this car were produced: 20 petrol and 13 diesel ones. 1.8 5V Turbo was one of the most interesting modifications, in terms of technical characteristics.
The car was equipped with 6-cylinder DOHC engine. Thanks to presence of a turbocharger with intercooler, two camshafts and upgraded valvetrain operation, the power unit was able to develop up to 150 hp having relatively small total displacement, and its maximum speed reached 5700 rpm. Each cylinder had 5 valves, due to which even and efficient formation of fuel-and-air mixture was performed, and the engine operated faultlessly in any conditions. Multipoint fuel injection system allowed to reduce fuel consumption: about 10.8 liters of petrol was needed to travel 100 km distance in urban cycle, 6.3 – in extra-urban and 9.3 – in combined cycle. Maximum speed of this modification of the Bora estate (1999–2005) was 216 km/h and the car took 9.2 seconds to accelerate to 100 km/h. Engine power was enough to transport 568 kg of cargo.
Trim levels of Bora 1J6
These cars were produced in an improved configuration (Highline) only. Even the standard equipment included an anti-lock brake system (ABS) with brake force distribution system (EBD), six airbags, stability control and traction control systems. The estate was notable for heated sport seats with good lumbar support and height adjustment. The steering wheel was trimmed with leather, and the steering column was two-way adjustable. Headrests and a central armrest were installed for rear seat passengers. Leather seat upholstery and navigation system could be ordered for extra charge.
Bora 1J6 was also equipped with one of the latest novelties of Volkswagen company of that time - intermittent windshield wipers with rain sensor.
