Main modifications
Over the years of production, 10 versions of the Volvo XC70 Cross Country were released: 2 diesel and 4 gasoline modifications - before the 2004 restyling, 2 diesel and 2 gasoline modifications - after the restyling.
Those who valued both excellent dynamics and fuel efficiency often chose the diesel 2.4 D5 MT AWD version. It had a 5-cylinder 20-valve engine with the Common Rail fuel injection system, turbocharger and intercooler, which developed the power of 185 hp. Its maximum torque of 400 Nm was achieved at the RPM between 2,000 and 2,750. Due to this, the estate could accelerate to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds, and its maximum speed was 210 km/h. At the same time, fuel consumption was moderate: covering 100 km of distance required 10.2 liters of fuel in the city cycle, 7.6 in the combined cycle, and 6.1 l in the highway. The payload of the modification was 544 kg. The electronically controlled Haldex coupling instantly distributed the torque according to the road conditions, ensuring stability and excellent steerability of the vehicle on slippery and loose surfaces.
XC70 Cross Country trim levels
Three basic trim levels were offered for the Volvo XC70 Cross Country estate car: Kinetic, Momentum, and Summum. An individual equipment list was available for the Ocean Race limited edition.
In the Momentum configuration, the vehicle was equipped with an anti-lock brake system with brake force distribution, emergency braking assist and traction control systems, and differential locking. A stability control system was available at extra charge. The vehicle safety was traditionally high: the robust body with programmed crumple zones, six airbags and seat belts minimized the risk of injury in case of collision. Leather seats with position adjustment and heating ensured comfort. The interior was complemented with a three-spoke steering wheel which was also wrapped in leather.
