Main modifications
Over the years of production, 14 gasoline and 2 diesel modifications of the V40 estate car were released before 2000; 11 gasoline and 2 diesel modifications – between 2000 and 2002, and 10 gasoline and 2 diesel modifications – after 2002. All in all, there were over 40 modifications.
Well-balanced operational characteristics were shown by the hybrid modification 1.8 Bi-Fuel MT. Its 4-cylinder 16-valve engine developed 122 HP, and could run either on gasoline, or natural gas. Fuel consumption was insignificant; it was 6.2 liters per 100 km in the highway, 8.1 l in the combined cycle, and 11.3 l in the city. However, the estate showed excellent dynamics: it accelerated to 100 km/h in 10.5 seconds, and its top speed was 200 km/h. The Multipoint injection system ensured smooth and stable operation of the engine, increasing its power; and the manual 5-speed transmission helped improve vehicle dynamics. The payload of the modification was 455 kg.
Trim levels of V40 VW
Volvo V40 VW, in addition to the basic trim level, in various years was offered in Exclusive-Line, Luxury-Line, Dynamic-Line, Sports-Line, Comfort-Line, Europa, Europa Elegance, Europa Sports, Europa Prestige, Europa Nordic, Business, Polar, and others trim levels.
The Europa Prestige version included six airbags, a traction control system, and an electronic stability system. The front heated seats, due to the well-developed lumbar support provided comfortable fit, and could be adjusted in various directions. High-quality soft leather was used for trim of seats and the steering wheel. Xenon headlamps with washers and windshield wipers that operated in intermittent mode ensured excellent visibility in all conditions.
