Technical characteristics Volvo S40 II MS

As the sedan was built on a brand new platform, its dimensions changed in comparison with the previous generation. The car was shorter, but wider and higher than its predecessor. Volvo S40 II MS length was 4468 mm, width - 1770 mm, and height - 1454 mm. The luggage compartment could contain load up to 404 liters. During restyling of 2007 sedan length was changed again: it was 4476 mm.

2.0 TD Powershift diesel modification was interesting with regard to implemented technologies. 5-cylinder 20-valve engine was installed on this car. Turbocharger and presence of the intercooler allowed to increase its power to 136 hp. Maximum driving torque of 340 N∙m was reached at low rpm due to which great dynamic characteristics appeared at the start: accelerating to 100 km/h took only 9.6 seconds, while maximum speed was 205 km/h.

Special Powershift semi-automatic gearbox with double clutch was installed on 2.0 TD, due to this gear shifting was performed without delays, almost instantly. Moreover, use of Powershift allowed to reduce fuel consumption by 8%. The sedan differed by high fuel efficiency due to it and Common Rail injection system: it required 7.8 liters of fuel per 100 km at driving in the city, 6 liters in combined cycle, and just 5 liters on the highway. Carrying capacity of the modification was 583 kg.
