SUZUKI Grand Vitara I Off-Road (FT, HT) cars: technical specifications, versions and trim levels

Suzuki Grand Vitara I (FT) technical specifications
The 3-door version of the Suzuki Grand Vitara I (FT) was 3905 mm long, 1695 mm wide and 1740 mm high. The cabin had five seats. The boot capacity was 258 litres and could be increased to 1080 litres by folding the rear seats.
The 5-door off-roader was longer and wider. The dimensions were 4215 mm, 1780 mm and 1740 mm in length, width and height respectively. The ground clearance was 195 mm. A long-wheelbase car, the XL-7, was also marketed. Its length was 4700 mm.
The front suspension of all cars was independent with MacPherson struts and the rear dependent. Ventilated brake discs were installed on the vehicle front axle and the rear was equipped with drum brakes.
Main versions
More than 20 versions of the Suzuki Grand Vitara I (FT) were produced in total. They included vehicles with diesel and petrol engines. All had part-time four-wheel drive.
The 2.0 TD version was one of the most fuel-efficient. It was equipped with a 4-cylinder 8-valve engine with an output of 87 hp. The maximum torque of 216 N⋅m was reached at 2000 rpm due to the turbocharger and intercooler. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h took 19.8 seconds. The top speed was 142 km/h. Fuel consumption in the combined cycle was 7.8 litres per 100 km, 6.9 litres in the extra-urban cycle and 9.4 litres in the urban cycle. The car had a 5-speed manual transmission. The maximum loading capacity was 545 kg.
In normal conditions, torque was delivered to the front wheels. If necessary, the driver was able to manually engage the rear axle. With the special Drive Select 4x4 system, four-wheel drive could be engaged at speeds of up to 100 km/h.
Grand Vitara I (FT) trim levels
Grand Vitara I (FT) off-roaders in the basic trim were equipped with front and rear electric windows, remote-controlled central locking, power steering, climate control and front airbags. An anti-lock brake system with force distribution was also factory-installed. The driver’s seat was height-adjustable. The rear seats were split-folding. There were roof rails, tinted windows and electric wing mirrors. Metallic body paint was an optional extra.
