Škoda Fabia I (6Y2) cars are compact 5-door hatchbacks, production of which was performed from 1999 till 2007. They debuted at the International Motor Show Germany. Technical specifications of Škoda Fabia I (6Y2)
The length of Škoda Fabia I (6Y2) hatchbacks was 3,960 mm, the width – 1,646 mm, the height – 1,451 mm. The car had a 5-seat passenger compartment. The luggage compartment volume varied in the 260–1,016 litres range, depending on the position of the rear seats backrests. The road clearance was 135 mm.
The front suspension was independent, the rear one – semi-independent. Brake discs were installed both on the front and the rear axles of the car.
The car was based on the A04 platform designed by the Volkswagen Group, so Škoda Fabia I (6Y2) hatchbacks used many assemblies and units of other cars of the Group, but were offered at a more affordable price.
Main versions
More than 15 versions of Škoda Fabia I (6Y2) hatchbacks were released over the whole manufacturing period. All of them were front-wheel driven. They were equipped with petrol or diesel power units which were usually combined with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.
The only exception was the RS sports version that debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in 2003: its was offered with a 6-speed manual transmission. The hatchback was equipped with a 4-cylinder 8-valve diesel engine with a turbocharger, intercooler and unit injectors. Its power was 130 hp. The torque was 310 Nm. According to the specification, acceleration to 100 km/h took 9.6 seconds. But the results of the tests performed by famous auto magazines showed even a shorter time: 7-7.5 seconds. The maximum speed of the version was 204 km/h. Fuel consumption was 4.5 litres, 5.6 litres and 7.4 litres in extra-urban, combined and urban cycles correspondingly. The loading capacity was 500 kg.
Fabia I (6Y2) trim levels
The hatchbacks were produced in the following trim levels: Junior, Ambiente, Classic, Comfort, Elegance, Blackline, Silverline, Sport and others. A special equipment list was also offered for the cars of the Flash limited series and the RS sports version.
The hatchback in the Elegance trim level was equipped with a central lock, an air conditioner, front and rear power windows, power steering. The driver seat was height-adjustable and, just as the front passenger seat, was heated. The rear seats were equipped with headrests. Parking sensors, an audio system, navigation and other equipment were offered for an additional charge.
